Art Kids Summer at the Philadelphia Museum of Art

July 5 – August 24, 2025

July 2, 2025 – The Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMA) is calling all kid creatives as it unveils this year’s Art Kids Summer. Young artists are encouraged to visit the PMA Friday through Sunday for drop-in art making, kid-friendly tours, and more throughout the summer beginning this Friday, July 5 through Sunday, August 24.

The collection of events will offer families a summer of fun and learning through unique hands-on activities in a dynamic and imaginative setting. Centered around the theme of Paper, Prints, and Play!, the summer programs are inspired by prints created by contemporary artists in the new special exhibition, Brand X Editions: Innovation in Screenprinting.

With activities in the Art Kids Studio, monthly family festivals, and family tours, July and August at the museum has something exciting for every family. Visitors 18 and under are always free.

“Every kid is an art kid,” said Lindsey Bloom, Manager of Family Programs. “We’re excited to offer programs that engage kids and families through a variety of art-making activities. Whether you’re a regular visitor or new to the museum, Art Kids can be a part of your summer.”

Here’s an overview of the activities the PMA offers:

Family Festivals
Join the fun on Sunday, July 6, and Sunday, August 3, for Pay What You Wish Family Festivals. These themed celebrations will feature performances, art demonstrations, and art-making with local artists.

Family Festival: Flower Power
Sunday, July 6
10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Festive florals meet family fun. This festival will feature printmaking with local artist Justine Kelley, still life sketching in the Great Stair Hall, and an interactive performance for babies from Ninth Planet.

Family Festival: Dab, Dash, Glide
Sunday, August 3
10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Discover quirky tools, movement, and stories in mark-making. This festival will feature silk screen printing with Second State Press, a gallery texture challenge where families can use their sense of touch to identify and sketch mystery objects, and a performance from Philly hip-hop artist-educators ILL DOOTS.

Experiment with new materials, tools, and techniques in this drop-in program inspired by prints in the Brand X exhibition. Projects, artists and themes change every few weeks:

July 18–August 3 | Dab, Dash, Glide
August 8–August 24 | Wordplay

Art Kids Tours
Friday–Sunday

Look, discover, and tell us what you think on these playful tours for families.

Little Art Kids
Every Friday, Education Classrooms 1 & 2 | First floor
10:30 a.m.
Toddlers and their grownups get to know the museum through art-making and creative play.

Art Kids Workshops
Registration required.
In-studio classes led by teaching artists. Workshops are designed for specific age groups, noted below. No experience is necessary, and all materials are supplied. Class size is limited. Workshops are $15 ($12 for members) per kid, per class. Tuition assistance available upon request.
